Public Safety Officer Standards and Training (POST) Credited Courses.

Mountain Self Defense offers tactical training to law enforcement, military and private security firms.  Course material counts for POST credits in the state of Montana as well as many other states and successful completion of course material provides certification for one year.  Currently there are two courses offered only to law enforcement, military and security companies.  Those being the Defensive Tactics course and the Spontaneous Knife Defense course.

Defensive Tactics (DT) 


This 40 hour course is the foundation defensive tactics material taught in over 70% of law enforcement academies in the United States. Certified by PPCT Management Systems the course covers combat stress effects, handcuffing, weapon retention/disarming and much more.  We also offer Defensive Tactics Instructor courses which certify passing students to be PPCT Defensive Tactics Instructors.

Departments needing a facility to hold their training are welcome to contact Mountain Self Defense even if they already have their own DT instructors.  Our goal is to assist law enforcement agencies in any way possible to ensure their officers have the highest level of training available. 

 

 

Spontaneous Knife Defense (SKD)

Spontaneous Knife Defense material is founded on statistics-based research and focuses on what is real and what works. SKD is taught nationally to law enforcement and corrections officers and counts as continued education (POST) credits for Montana and Idaho Law Enforcement and corrections officers.
 
Participants receive effective and realistic training to counter edged weapon assaults. 

Training consists of 16 hours of class room and physical demonstrations for law enforcement POST credited class and 8 hours for civilian (non- POST credited) material.  It is recommended that shin and forearm guards as well as eye protection be brought by participants. This physical segments of this class can be strenuous and the subject material is inherently violent.
